The events of 7 October, the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust, along with the subsequent Israeli response in Gaza, mark a pivotal moment in the Arab-Israeli conflict and Jewish life worldwide. They have sparked extensive media and public response and fervent reactions from all sides.
Social media has been central to the way this response has played out over the past months – fierce debates have been joined by denial, distortion and the harassment and abuse of Jewish and Israeli social media users. Dr Matthew Bolton is co-lead of the UK Team of the Decoding Antisemitism project, based at the Centre for Antisemitism Research, Technical University Berlin. He has written widely on antisemitism in the UK, including Corbynism: A Critical Approach (with F. H. Pitts, Emerald, 2018). His work has appeared in journals including Philosophy and Social Criticism, British Politics, Political Quarterly, and the Journal of Contemporary Antisemitism. He is a fellow of the London Centre for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism.
Jacob Turner is a barrister and writer. He has represented countries including Argentina, Iraq, Russia and Greece. He previously worked at Israel’s Mission to the UN in New York in the legal department and as a speechwriter to the Ambassador. Jacob is the co-author with Lord Mance of Privy Council Practice (OUP, 2017), and the author of Robot Rules: Regulating Artificial Intelligence (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018).
