Modern technology and the pride of the Palestinians who stormed into Israel on 7 October 2023 ensured that many of their atrocities were instantly streamed around the world. Yet polls indicate that only 9% of Palestinians believe that Hamas committed war crimes and only 24% of British Muslims believe that Hamas committed murder and rape on that day. It took 57 days before UN Women condemned the “gender-based atrocities and sexual violence”.
In this live event in a venue in North London, documentary-maker, John Ware, and human rights professor, Rosa Freedman, will discuss with Natasha Hausdorff the evidence and denial of atrocities on 7 October, and possible causes, consequences, responses and implications.

John Ware was a staff reporter for the BBC’s flagship documentary programme, Panorama, from 1986 to 2012. Today he still makes occasional documentaries as a freelance. His Panorama last February revealed how Hamas had funded the growth of its military wing into a force almost half the size of the British army. . In 2019, his Panorama on Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour party showed how antisemitism had markedly increased under his leadership. Following transmission, the Labour Party, the anti-Zionist Jewish Voice for Labour and Paddy French, a Corbyn supporting journalist, accused John of: deliberately misleading viewers and inventing facts, supporting the Far Right, and engaging in Rogue Journalism. John sued all three and won..
Rosa Freedman is the inaugural Professor of Law, Conflict and Global Development at the University of Reading. She is a non-practising barrister and has published extensively on UN human rights bodies and systems, and on UN peacekeeping and accountability for human rights abuses. Freedman is a visiting fellow at the London Centre for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism and co-editor of the Routledge book series on contemporary antisemitism. She has served as a member of the UN Secretary-General’s Civil Society Advisory Board on prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, a Specialist Adviser on safeguarding to the UK government International Development Committee, and currently sits on a UK FCDO Steering Committee.
Natasha Hausdorff is a barrister at 6 Pump Court Chambers and a frequent speaker on International Law. She has a law degree from Oxford University, qualified as a solicitor at Skadden, and subsequently gained an LLM from Tel Aviv University, focussing on public international law and the law of armed conflict.
She clerked for Miriam Naor, President of Israel’s Supreme Court, and was a Fellow at Columbia Law School’s National Security Program. Natasha is legal director of UKLFI Charitable Trust.
In the course of the current conflict, Natasha has been interviewed frequently on television to explain the application of the law of armed conflict.
